Teamsters’ General Executive Board reviews legislative solutions to pension crisis

(Source: International Brotherhood of Teamsters press release, August 10, 2017)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The International Brotherhood of Teamsters General Executive Board met in Washington, D.C. yesterday to receive comprehensive briefings on four legislative proposals that address the growing pension crisis that could affect millions of active and retired members across the nation.

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and representatives from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), UPS and the National Coordinating Committee for Multiemployer Plans (NCCMP) presented their proposals for a legislative solution to the pension crisis.

“The presentations provided an overview of the various legislative paths that could be introduced in Congress this fall,” said Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa. “It was important for the General Executive Board to hear what direction the various parties are taking on the issue. Once legislation is filed in Congress, we will be better prepared to seek a solution that we believe is in the best interests of our active and retired members.”
