I would like to welcome you to the new website of the National Legislative Office of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, a division of the Rail Conference of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
This site is intended to be a resource for BLET members, as well as anyone who is interested in the legislative and regulatory activities of our union.
As the site evolves it is my hope that it will be a useful tool in helping the BLET to continue to maintain, expand and deepen its relationships with Congress, labor leaders, government agencies and the general public.
The recent changes in Washington have provided us with a unique opportunity to move our Brotherhood forward through our work on Capitol Hill and with Federal regulatory agencies, as well as through our partner with our brothers and sisters at other rail unions.
We must also be mindful of the efforts undertaken in our State Capitols, where our Legislative Boards fight equally important battles with our future at stake. Integrating our General Committees and Divisions with these State and Federal efforts will also continue to be a key goal of this office.
One of the keys to our success will be the extent to which we can strengthen our communication with one another. The locomotive engineer was present at the birth of organized labor, and keeping pace in the internet age will aid in our continuing resiliency.
Towards that end, this website will be a work in progress. I strongly encourage and welcome your feedback, which you will be able to provide directly through the site. I hope that you will use this collection of pages as a destination for resources and timely information, and visit frequently for updates on the activities of the National Legislative Office.
